Who we are and how we got here
When Impetus Coaching’s founder – Melissa Mehta – started her coach training, she recognised that much of what she was learning would have benefited her as a teenager. Melissa approached her old school and offered to run sessions on confidence and communication for sixth formers. The head suggested instead that she create a workshop to support the school’s Oxbridge interview candidates.
Since that Oxbridge Interview Success workshop was delivered in 2009, Impetus Coaching has worked with hundreds of students from more than 30 UK schools. One of our first clients has seen an Oxbridge offer rate increase from 13% of pupils interviewed to 52% (from a cohort of 30) in this time. Amongst our clients have been non-native English speakers from China, Sri Lanka, Russia and Europe, as well as IB and EB students.
Alongside our interview success workshops for schools, we provide online resources and one-to-one coaching packages for individuals applying to Oxbridge and other top universities.

MELISSA MEHTA
DIRECTOR
Melissa holds a degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University, and has delivered interview training to Oxbridge candidates since 2009. Prior to founding Impetus Coaching, Melissa worked as a writer and trainer. Her professional development training includes Brain Friendly Learning and Facilitation with Kaizen Training; Three Principles with Michael Neill; and the One Thought Institute practitioner programme.
LIZ REECE
CAREERS CONSULTANT
Liz is a level 7 qualified, freelance career development consultant with 30 years’ experience. She has won a national award for innovation and excellence in career education. Liz is a contributor to the UCAS Guide to Getting into University and College, and develops resources for CASCAID and the National Schools Partnership.
ALEXANDRA HANDS
PERSONAL TUTOR
Alexandra holds a degree in Modern and Medieval Languages from Cambridge University, a PGCE in Secondary English and an MSc in Psychology. Specialising in individual tuition, Alex has particular experience working with international students focusing on improving academic English and academic performance. Alex has five years’ experience delivering Oxbridge interview training with Impetus Coaching.
NICOLA FULLJAMES
FACILITATOR
Nicola Fulljames read Natural Sciences at St Catharine’s, Cambridge, while enjoying the amateur dramatics opportunities afforded by Footlights. After graduating, she fulfilled her ambition of starring in a West End show. Nicola then explored the world of investment banking, before becoming a speech and language therapist. Nicola has been delivering Oxbridge workshops with Impetus Coaching since 2014, and also provides training for medical applicants preparing for MMIs.
MO TANWEER
PERSONAL TUTOR
Mo Tanweer studied Economics at Cambridge University before working for two major international banks. He then pursued his interest in education, teaching economics at three leading independent schools for more than a decade. During this time Mo developed his expertise helping candidates prepare their Oxbridge applications, covering Economics, Economics & Management, PPE, Land Economy and HSPS applications. Mo now provides bespoke economics tutoring to sixth formers, and Oxbridge application support. He also provides advice to schools on academic attainment and enrichment, teaches at the Judge Business School, and sits on several economics advisory boards.
